For a list of picturebooks with excellent integration of words and pictures, check out the winners of the Kurt Maschler Award, a prize for British authors and illustrators. The prize was awarded from 1982 to 1999. The prize covered picture books and an illustrated book for a wide variety of ages, and Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland appears to be a particularly satisfying text to illustrate because it was won twice, by two different illustrators.
